Breaking my hiatus to rant.

So, before my trip this past week, I was digging through my mail pile, trying to find my July T pass. No sign of it. I figured I had just missed it coming in, but it’s a recognizable envelope that I usually pull out of the pile right away.

Today, coming home, I bought a non-rechargeable T ticket to quickly get home from the airport. I found in my mailbox, postmarked July 3rd (the day I left), is the following:

We apologize, but effective immediately the MBTA has discontinued the auto Renew Program that you were a part of in the past. We understand that the late notice makes getting your July passes problematic.

Well done, T. Well done.

It goes on to explain how I can purchase a pass at a T vending machine… which of course I passed on the way home today, expecting to have the pass found when I got home.

I can’t find any information about the switch on the MBTA website. I remember the invoices being from a company called Fareways… whose website now consists of dead links. I think some kind of fascinating implosion happened here.

  1. The T sucks. That’s one of the reasons I’m in Chicago now.

Seriously, the least helpful people and maps I’ve ever found outside of Paris were both in Boston on the T.

  2. I got an e-mail from Fareways today thanking me for my patronage and informing me that they had been replaced as the pass program provider. A little warning would have been nice.

Nurd Up!
