Presentation

My presentation this morning, a demonstration (and question session) of the system I’ve been working on for the last few months, went well. There were a few questions I had to defer to others, but it went smoothly (if somewhat artificially).

The cryptic post last week in the wee hours of the morning referred to the fact that the system was frozen (as in finished, not broken) and burned onto a CD in preparation for shipping to the install site. I think it is still in licensing limbo, but I’ll probably have to do some phone support soonish.

Next week is going to focus on where we’re going, now that I’ve done a lot of the engineering of gluing all of the existing pieces together and wrapping them up in a nice package. Some of today’s meeting was talking about things on the 1, 2, and 5 year horizons. Let me just say that we (meaning humanity, not BBN) are going to be in a pretty awesome place in 5 years when it comes to automated document understanding.

I got Kurzweil’s The Singularity is Near for Christmas from my high school friend Gus; he wants to echo the period in high school when our group of friends (the NurdSquad) all went ape over The Age of Spiritual Machines. Maybe I’ll come out of the book a Transhumanist?

I am, of course, still playing WoW, although I didn’t have much time to play while I compressed 4 weeks of work into 2.5 weeks with no weekends or holidays. I’ve focused in on my Dwarven Rogue, who is now level 38. Level 60 will happen someday…

  1. Please, please try to avoid the transhumanism thing. It’s… unseemly.

(I have an autographed copy of that book, but it’s not my faulr).
