Indulging My Inner Middle Schooler

If we ignore the fact that I’ve gradumutated, the past week has involved a lot of activities that evoked my pastimes in 7th and 8th grade.

Last Monday, ran a Magic: The Gathering draft game. It was a lot of fun, but I was reminded why I got rid of all of my Magic cards after 8th grade. It’s frustrating to play a game where the best way to win is to disable your opponent and prevent them from playing. I play games for fun, not to win, so I want the game to be fun throughout. Weird, I know.

On Tuesday, I went on the Senior Week trip to Six Flags Great Adventure. I rode every roller coaster there that was open at least once. Unfortunately, Kingda Ka, currently the world’s tallest and fastest coaster, was closed due to inclement weather. Apparently a little raindrop hurts a fair amount at 128 mph. This just means that I am not up-to-date on the roller coaster records; I rode Millenium Force at Cedar Point in 2001, when it was the tallest and fastest.

It was a lot of fun. I went around the park with Jacqui, Lauren, and Beth, and generally acting like an excited little kid. Which was an entirely accurate portrayal of my mood :o). I’m sure that they were amused.

Last night, my friend Gus from high school and I played the Star Trek CCG, which we haven’t done since 8th grade. I made a very interesting move in which I supernovaed the borg cube with my tox uthat for 45 points, but unfortunately I was unable to stop Gus from completing a mission. Note to self: Do not create a deck that has two missions requiring Diplomacy with only one diplomatic character…

Right now I’m watching old war movies (there’s a Steve McQueen marathon on TCM) with my dad. Good times.
