So, apparently my taste in the fit of a pair of jeans is identical to that of a 13-year-old skateboarder. The best fitting jeans I found at Kohl’s were two pair of JNCO Jeans, which unfortunately feature a large JNCO crown logo on the left thigh.
I like loose, comfortable pants, which probably explains the overlap with skaters. I normally wear a 32-34, which these days is hard enough to find as it is. I tried Regular Fit, Relaxed Fit, Loose Fit, Comfort Fit, and Low Rise Fit, but none of them had enough space in a key measurement: the distance from waistband to inseam, a measurement which is not specified explicitly on any pair of jeans I have ever seen. Most of the other fits are also too tight around the leg, having what I believe is called a “boot cut”.
I guess I have a tall pelvis, since I typically wear my pants fairly low, right on top of my pelvis, without a belt. Because these skater jeans are made extra long so that the cuffs can hang over your shoes and become all torn up and muddy, thus making a fashion statement, I actually bought them in 32-32. Combined with wearing them low on my waist, this is about the right length in the leg.
Speaking of belts, I am strongly considering investing in some sort of utility belt. This would not be to hold up my pants, but rather for the attachment of devices to my pants. My cell phone’s belt clip has completely destroyed one part of the waistband of my current pair of jeans, wearing away the edge until frayed.
Is there something wrong with me for wanting to have my cell phone and iPod clipped to the belt, with holsters for my glasses case and retainer case, and one of those retractable wire keychains? I’d probably toss on a multi-tool pouch and a coin purse for added measure. What sort of geek does this make me to actually want this? I am reminded of a Dilbert strip from a while ago…
